The celebration started with a ribbon cutting ceremony courtesy of Mr. Enrico Inigo Xavier C. Quodala, FEUR Marikina campus head, and Mrs. Maria Nina S. Ramo, junior high school academic coordinator as a sign of the start of the 2-day culminating activity.
Day 1 comprises of various competitions such as renowned board game Scrabble, Spelling Bee, and Battle of the Brains facilitated by members of the Lexis Society and even the FEURM student council. Two major events also commenced during this day.
For the junior high school, they are invited to a seminar on Campus Journalism facilitated by Mr. Jared R. Cruz, former moderator of the FEUR Gazette Marikina. Mr. Cruz gave insightful information on writing a news report and where to get the news just to name a few. This seminar is important as the junior high school students have a separate subject on Campus Journalism.
Then, 21st Century Literature teachers asked their Grade 12 classes to create a short film on their chosen story that they have acquired from their literature lessons a month prior. This is graded as their Checkpoint Exam and considered as their entry for the English Month Film Festival (EMFF). In the culminating activity, students watched these films during their English classes or free time. But the celebration does not end there.
Day 2 is an even festive day in which the Speech Choir competition and Book Characterization happened. Grade 11 classes were the contestants in the Speech Choir competition using “If I were a Voice” by Charles Mackay in which they had unique approaches and techniques in delivering the said piece.
After a short transition break from the speech choir competition, it’s time for the Book Characterization where representatives from all high school levels dressed up as their chosen book characters. It started with a parade livestreamed courtesy of the FEU Roosevelt Gazette Marikina via Facebook live. Then, the real competition started. The representatives portrayed their characters in the parade and the main event where they introduced themselves and mentioned a remarkable line mentioned by their chosen character.
Overall, the two-day culminating event is deemed a success. It served its overall purpose. One of the judges of the Book Characterization mentioned how she is welcomed by the Tamaraws and applauded the clubs responsible for the event.
