During the two days of ACX, the format of classes was altered. Some students and instructors experienced technical problems, so some classes were shortened. Despite the issue, the students could still have an enjoyable moment.

Then, on the second and final day, many classes were conducted online, enabling students to really engage with the material and stay connected with their peers and teachers despite being apart. It was a novel way of learning but advantageous for all involved.

Mrs. Rebecca Albutra’s Alternative Class Experience, “Gender Reveal Cake,” caught the attention of Senior High School students. During the class, Mrs. Albutra discussed baking a cake, from the batter to the icing and decorations. She asked who in the class had a sweet tooth and was met with enthusiasm from the Elementary students. Mrs. Albutra shared that she came up with the class idea as she was seven months pregnant. She proudly announced that the class was named after her “Gender Reveal Cake” and made the session memorable for her students.

Mrs. Chanyungco led a recorded session on “The Learning Curve: SHS Guide into Building Study Habits for College.” She discussed different study routines and habits that could be adopted for the college, stressing the importance of attendance. Mrs. Chanyungco wanted the class to take away effective ways that would become habits, leading to successful learning. To remember this, she ended the class with a quote from Rafael Nadal: “Sin sifrimiento, no hay Felicidad,” or “Without sacrifice, there is no happiness.” Finally, she hoped that learning does not only occur inside the classroom but from external sources.

Miss Francesca Jan Reyes recently facilitated a comprehensive Basic Sign Language Alternative Class with over six hundred participants of varied grade levels. The course began with the English Alphabet’s twenty-six characters, followed by numbers, colors, and greetings. Miss Reyes was aided in the class by Miss Trisha Buluran’s videos, which acted as a visual aid to help students learn the language. The course proved outstanding, with the students acquiring the language quickly and the teacher providing an organized, informative lesson. It is evident that Sign Language is a significant language to understand, and it is anticipated that many more students will adopt it in the future.

Attending ACX classes at FEUR was nothing short of a remarkable experience for the students, including 8th grader Hamza Lomangco, who enrolled in Basic Chess, Taekwondo, Basic Spanish classes Hangul Language, and Netiquettes. In an interview, he mentioned how he enjoyed Taekwondo Basic Class, which enabled him to discover different martial arts and their customs and techniques. Additionally, Hamza found Basic Chess stimulating, allowing him to create tactics to defeat opponents.

This year’s alternative classes illuminated the students’ abilities as their aptitudes continued to develop. From Elementary to Senior High School, the students were included in pleasure and knowledge.

In sum, the experience was undoubtedly extraordinary for all the students at FEURR.

‘Till next year again, Tams!
