More reading, more learning!
On March 3, 2023, the FEU Roosevelt Cainta English Club, in collaboration with the SED English Department and Library Department, commenced the reading activities for Read Aloud Month. During a breezy morning, representatives from grade levels 7 to 10 read silently with the books sponsored by Scholastic Inc. They were instructed to form groups to share the books they have read and create a film or reenactment about it afterward.
Despite the sudden assignment, our brilliant JHS students were able to come up with inventive presentations according to their stories. Their marvelous works were posted on English Club’s Facebook page, where each group has to collect WOW reactions, and the group that gets the most reactions will achieve victory. On March 28, the announced winners of the competition are the following: Grade 8 Honesty as 3rd Runner-Up (When Marian Sang by Pam Muñoz Ryan and Survival at 120 Above by Debbie Miller), Grade 9 Fortitude as 2nd Runner-Up (Weslandia by Paul Fleischman), Grade 7 Charity as 1st Runner-Up (Wings by Christopher Myers), and Grade 10 Competence as Champion (Bill the Boy Wonder: The Secret Co-Creator of Batman by Marc Nobleman).
Most children resemble reading as a chore, but with this activity, we can help them instill a love for books, which unlocks the door to lifelong learning. At the end of the day, students enjoyed their read-aloud sessions and making films based on their imaginations. Seeing them dedicate their time to literature was just astonishing to observe. And while you’re at the end of this article, this is a reminder that you must finish every book you begin with, slowly but surely!
