School Year: 2022 – 2023
FEURRsuan is Valentine’s event initiated by the FEUR-RSC to celebrate Valentine’s Day. There was a string of activities and gimmicks, with February 17 as their peak and conclusion. The FEURRsuan included bridging people, expressing one’s heart with words, and touching the heart with music.
Speaking of music, two days before the FEURRsuan main event, the FEUR-RSC posted a list of Spotify playlists on their Facebook page. The playlists were filled with songs meant for the Tamaraws based on their relationship statuses. The interesting thing was their oddly relatable and self-explanatory titles: “Para sa mga in love,” “Para sa mga broken,” “Para sa mga na-friendzone,” “Para sa mga umaasa at walang label,” and “Para sa mga self-love muna.” In an interview with the FEUR-RSC Grade 9 Representative, Rhonalyn Elefane, she shared that the officers added the songs to the playlists. She also jokingly added—“Daming na friendzone ah, btw same.”
Love letters have been a way of conveying affection for centuries, which was why the FEURRsuan helped hearts connect with pen and paper. The Arts Club, Anime Club, and the FEUR-RSC collaborated to assist admirers in handing out their letters to the apple of their eye. The letters were written by the Tamaraws themselves and were dropped in special red boxes all over the campus. The club members gave the letters to the specified receiver on February 17. To make the delivery more special, the Tams could choose a wingman doing cosplay or wearing formal attire.
Conveying the heart in words continues till the end of the FEURRsuan. During the main celebration day, a board in the right corner of the campus gymnasium was filled with hanging notes of confessions, greetings, and punchlines written by the patrons of the FEURRsuan Confession Wall. According to Ms. Elefane, the Confession Wall is a tradition of the FEUR-RSC and the campus every Valentine’s Day. Now that we have returned to face-to-face classes, they wanted Tams to experience this celebration again. She added that they hoped to let Tams express their feelings of gratefulness and admiration for their special someone. She also said that in the end, they were satisfied seeing a lot of students visiting the confession wall—and, most importantly, enjoying the day.
To set the day’s mood for the FEURRsuan February 17 event, some pupils from the Music Club and the FEUR-RSC collaborated to provide an open mic, in which numerous love songs were performed. “Paraluman” by Adie, “Best Part” by Daniel Caesar, “Pagsamo” by Arthur Nery, and “Torete” by Moonstar88 were among the songs performed. The music resounded throughout the gymnasium, and the audience joyfully sang along with the performers as they related to the lyrics. “It was so heartwarming to see my schoolmates sing every word from their hearts. I feel fulfilled po somehow kahit ‘di ako pinili ni crush today,” said Samantha Claro, a Grade 11 – STEM A student.
The “FEURRBelong With Me” Marriage Booth was one of the students’ most anticipated activities for the FEURRsuan event. The Guidance Club members moderated the booth and scouted the campus to get potential brides and grooms to participate in the wedding. While they spotted random pairs, they also welcomed those eager to get married in the name of their schoolmates.
The FEURRBelong With Me aimed to provide a high level of inclusion by embracing opposite and same-sex couples who deserve to “make memorable experiences for both themselves and the community,” as stated in the caption of one of the club’s social media posts. Here, two pupils were linked to tie the knot, complete with wedding accessories such as veils and flower bouquets. The moderators also played wedding songs to match the theme and gave the newlyweds matching wedding rings, a marriage certificate, and other trinkets.
With its additional twists to the usual jail booth activities, the Rover Scouts’ Jail Booth, dubbed “Prison of Love,” was another event hit. More than 30 students signed up for it. Students can choose from one of the four services the scout members offer here. The price list included ₱70 for 30 minutes, ₱50 for an hour, ₱40 for two hours, and the cheapest plan worth ₱30 for three hours. Because of the price-to-time ratio of the plans, more students opted for the longer jail time as it was the least costly option. Fortunately for the captives, there were bail-out services ranging from ₱60-80. The rover scouts cooked up a twist that involved eating whatever the prisoners chose from the assortment of folded papers labeled either Chili, Bitter Gourd Drink, or Raw Eggs. They did this to avoid having to serve the mandatory jail sentence. Some had enough strength to comply, while others stayed in the booth longer.
Overall, it was a well-spent day of sharing and exuding love to every corner of the quadrangle, whether from a romantic or platonic relationship. From love letters to the customized playlists to the musical performances and booth activities organized to build a day of celebrating hearts, the FEURRsuan event was undoubtedly another memory to remember in every Tamaraw’s heart.
